How good was Brandon Beachy Thursday? He tossed nine shutout innings, allowing just five hits without a walk, while striking out six. It was one of the premier pitching performances of the week and helped Los Coche Bomba widen the gap in the pitching categories in its series with A-Rod's Mirrors.
Los Coche Bomba 9, A-Rod's Mirrors 2
The Mirrors can tie the quality start category today if Jeff Samardzija, Cole Hamels and Justin Masterson all pitch well. They can't hurt the team ERA and WHIP, which stand at 9.87 and 2.54. Adam LaRoche continues to be the hottest hitter for the Mirrors, driving in six runs in a 5-for-15 effort this week.
Scully's Slammers 6, Give it a Yankee 4
Brandon League and Logan Ondrusek both blew saves for the Slammers Thursday and in the process killed the team WHIP and ERA. James McDonald struck out 11 batters but failed to register a quality start that would have given the Slammers the category lead. It's a big night on the mound for both teams Friday as the Slammers pitch James Shields and Ted Lilly while Give it a Yankee throws Daniel Bard, Jonathan Niese, and Wandy Rodriguez.
Bacon at Mile 11 7, Twinkle Toes 5
Bacon exploded offensively Thursday and is now in firm control of the home run and RBI categories. Rod Barajas, Troy Tulowitzki and Justin Upton all hit home runs as the team had 10 RBI and seven runs scored. Brian Matusz earned a quality start for Twinkle Toes, which now holds a 6-4 lead in the category. Rookie Lance Lynn will try to close that gap for Bacon tonight.
The Machine 7, High Cheese 4
Jered Weaver and Joe Saunders take the hill tonight as High Cheese tries again to record its first quality start of this series. Rookie Jarrod Parker will pitch for the Machine. Jose Bautista and Cody Ross both hit home runs for the Machine on Thursday and Ross drove in four runs.
The Cys 7, Vicious Fishes 3
Four starting pitchers climbed the mound on Thursday in this series but only Matt Moore emerged with a quality start for the Cys. Tommy Hanson and Carlos Zambrano will pitch tonight for the Fishes while Edwin Jackson starts for the Cys. Carlos Santana is now 6-for-13 with a homer and a stolen base in this series.
HUMA 7, Marin Menehunes 5
Carlos Ruiz and Asdrubal Cabrera drove in five of the Menehunes' eight runs Thursday as the team continued to build on its RBI lead. Doug Fister earned a quality start for HUMA, which took over the category lead. Barry Zito will pitch for the Menehunes tonight and try to even the quality start category.
Jersey Boys 7, The Bulls 3
Freddie Freeman homered while Aaron Harang and R.A. Dickey earned quality starts as the Jersey Boys continue to lead this series. If they hang on, this will be one of the biggest upsets of the season. Justin Verlander and Andy Pettitte will start tonight for the Jersey Boys and a pair of quality starts would give the Jersey Boys another category lead.
Home Run 101 8, Lower Haighters 4
Newly acquired Ricky Romero and Neftali Feliz start tonight for the Lower Haighters, which could tie the quality start category but, more importantly, help lower the team ERA and WHIP. Albert Pujols continued to come alive, as he homered again for the Lower Haighters Thursday. Sergio Romo and Juan Cruz recorded two important holds for Home Run 101 Thursday as the team now leads the category 4-1.
